Another exercise, this time in cross-posting. ;-)

I've been expanding the list of cooking blogs I read occasionally. I'm always impressed by people who have the time and energy I don't to both cook *and* post about it. I'd love to hear recs if you've got them.

Meanwhile, my list:

Use Real Butter. I think I've linked to this before, but it's worth linking again. The blogger posts about cooking and living in the mountains in Colorado, complete with stunning nature and food photography. The recipes are lush and yes, use real butter. omg yum There are a fair number of awesome Asian-style recipes too.

Kalyn's Kitchen is an awesome blog for anyone who likes low glycemic index-type food. [personal profile] revely sent me the link once, and I was tickled to figure out it was to a blog I'd already glommed onto, since Rev and I have similar issues with sugar. :P You will find very, very few dessert recipes, but the recipes for egg, bean and vegetable dishes rock.

Pommes d'Amour, by a female cook in a NY restaurant kitchen. Great photos and NY stories.

Not Eating Out in New York. Another NY-based blog, started by someone who was tired of paying NY restaurant prices but still wanted to eat well. Lots of good, vegetable-rich, cheap eats.

Smitten Kitchen. *Another* NY-based blog. This is full of odd and interesting recipes. Pickled grapes with cinnamon and black pepper, anyone?

Wild Yeast. It's odd, because I do not make bread, and I rarely eat it, but I love reading about it -- and tucking away recipes for some nebulous future time when I will have time to try and make it.

Caviar and Codfish has more than seafood recipes in it, but I'm grateful for the ones that are there, because cooking fish always intimidates me. Pretty pictures in this one, too.

Lucullian Delights is by a Swedish woman living in Tuscany. The photos are gorgeous and the Italy envy is free!

A Year of Crockpotting. Crockpots are another thing that intimidates me. This is a good resource.

Tea and Wheaten Bread is by an older British lady with recipes to match. *g* It's all very cozy.

What's For Lunch, Honey?. This is a fantastic blog I just discovered that posts Indian dishes handed down from mother to daughter, with occasional modernizations. I made this Sauteed Cabbage and Fennel today and it was so good I wanted to fall face down into the bowl and just slurp.

Orangette is a blog by Molly Wizenberg. The recipes are really good, and she and her partner are in the process of opening a restaurant, which is fascinating.

101 Cookbooks you've probably heard about if you read anything about cooking on line. I applaud the impulse that says when you hit that place where you've acquired so many cookbooks you can't store them all, then you *have* to start cooking from them. :P The recipes are mostly vegetarian, and look yummy. (Yes, I'm acquiring cooking blogs now, instead of cookbooks... and *still* not cooking much out of them. Ah well. At least the blogs take up less space.)

Cheap, Healthy, Good is exactly as advertised. Somewhat NY-centric, but still with good, broad-based tips on eating healthily and well. And cheap!

Artisan Bread in Five Minutes. Takes the No-Knead bread idea and runs with it.

The Art of Dessert. I'm not a big dessert eater (I'm not fond of sweet things in general), but I love the chemistry of baking and pastry and I love the art in cake design. I'm sure there are more good dessert-oriented blogs out there (any suggestions?) but I do like this one.

I'm also following omnomnom on Dreamwidth, which looks interesting. Not least because they are very specific about the time a recipe takes to prepare, and that's useful.

This is an experiment. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with this journal, but for now I've subscribed to a number of journals belonging to people I've enjoyed reading and/or conversing with around LJ.

Right now I'm giving access to everyone I subscribe to with absolutely no expectation of being given access or subscribed to in return, and that includes anyone who has me friended on LJ. I am an avid fan of drama-free journaling and figure these things will work themselves out over time.

I will probably cross-post content from my DenyN LJ, which means there will be very little content here until I can crawl out from under the huge load of work that's currently eating up almost all my time. Woe.

Briefly, I've been a media fan for ~35 years, a not particularly prolific fic writer for ~11 years and a perennial appreciator of wit and wisdom wherever I can find it.

Welcome!
